Thought I’d register before I become like really famous and have to pay someone else to buy back my domain (like in my dreams…) but yeah, thought it was about time : ) So yay! It’s up, but not without some confusion along the way…
So I am detailing my process step by step here… for posterities sake? Or for anyone who wants to set up their custom domain with moniker+tumblr like *snap snap*.
1. Registered my domain at moniker.com and had to wait a day to access the account. Signing up with privacy option totalled to USD12.50/per year through paypal. Hmmphh… they don’t absorb the transaction fee : (
2. After a day, log in, go to my accounts > view domains > check (tick) the relevant domain> (on the tabs above) click IP > click on the relevant domain> zone records. Now here was the tricky part (for me : P)
3. Pretty much delete all the zone records. And add the relevant new records with the IP add for tumblr (72.32.231.8). Add two Type A records. One with host (@) and another (www). I added the @ without the www. And couldn’t link to my site if I typed (www.jenling.com).
4. Now on tumblr. Click customise> info> and use your custom domain. For me, it’s www.jenling.com. You can also (test your domain) to make sure your domain is pointed to tumblr’s IP. Hurrah, my site was accessible within an hour! :)
